Why Do I Assign Beauty To Things?

2019-09-03T13:19:07-07:00

This is an experimental art film based on a short poem about the meaning of beauty and the tension between the beautiful and the real. During a stay on an olive farm in Turkey, the filmmaker stumbled upon a book of poems by Fernando Pessoa in the attic of the farmhouse. This particular poem was written by Fernando Pessoa’s alter ego, Alberto Caeiro, just a few months before the beginning of WWI. It suggests a simple view of the world as it is, free of sentiment, theories, and contradictions.
