Three Minutes - A Lengthening presents a home movie shot by David Kurtz in 1938 in a Jewish town in Poland and tries to postpone its ending. As long as we are watching, history is not over yet. The three minutes of footage, mostly in color, are the only moving images left of the Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk before the Holocaust. The existing three minutes are examined to unravel the human stories hidden in the celluloid. The footage is imaginatively edited to create a film that lasts more than an hour. We will be screening the five DOCUMENTARY SHORTS that have been nominated for an Oscar this year at the 95th Academy Awards. We'll start at 6:30pm sharp and screen the first three: Haulout Stranger at the Gate How Do You Measure a Year? At the 20-minute intermission, you'll have time to grab an adult beverage or a snack and then we'll get to preview two more provocative films: The Elephant Whisperers The Martha Mitchell Effect

Set in 1952 London, the film will follow Williams, a veteran civil servant, who has become a small cog in the bureaucracy of rebuilding post-WWII England. As endless paperwork piles up on his desk, he learns he has a fatal illness. Thus begins his quest to find some meaning to his seemingly grey, monotonous life before it slips away. He first attempts, with limited success, to throw himself into debauchery during a wild night in Brighton in the company of a bohemian writer he befriends there.
